Leo Is A Dachshund/Chihuahua Mix

Dog Lover - Wednesday, June 27, 2012

Do you have a quiet home and lifestyle that will be perfect for Leo? Grateful Dogs Rescue is looking for a San Francsico Bay area home for Leo. Are you looking to adopt a dog? Maybe Leo is the dog for you.

This is our sweet little Leo. He is about a year old and close to ten pounds. Leo loves to be with the ones he loves and trusts. He can get shy in new situations but at home he is a cuddle bug. He's not a huge player but loves to get a treat and go out for his walks to explore town and romp at the park.

Due to Leo's shy nature, he is looking for a quieter home with adults that will understand how to go slow in the beginning. After he bonds with you though, he is your forever friend and loves his belly rubs and cuddles. He does seem to favor women over men.

If you are interesting in adopting Leo, fill out the Grateful Dogs Rescue adoption application to start the process of meeting Leo and to see if he is right for you. http://gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-application

Adopt A Dog: Meet Rudy

Dog Lover - Tuesday, June 19, 2012

Grateful Dogs Rescue is looking for someone in the San Francisco Bay area to adopt Rudy.

Rudy is a cute one year old Norfolk Terrier mix weighing about eleven pounds. He is a confident, outgoing little guy who would love to be part of an active household; with the energy level of a typical terrier, he needs plenty of opportunity for exercise!

Rudy's ideal adopter will be able provide him with some structure and a firm hand with training. He is at his best with direction and guidence. He is very people friendly but can get excited and a little mouthy so he should be in a home without small children. However, he is great with other dogs and should do well with basic behavior training.

If you would like to consider adopting Rudy, fill out an adoption application form and a Grateful Dogs Rescue volunteer case manager will set up a time to talk to you about Rudy, adopting a dog through Grateful Dogs Rescue and if your living situation / lifestyle is right for Rudy. http://gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-application

City Dogs | Bernie's Grooming

Dog Lover - Wednesday, June 13, 2012

City Dogs | Bernie's Grooming has been a great supporter of Grateful Dogs Rescue and all of the San Francisco Bay Area rescue groups. Since Bernie and her team groom pretty much every dog that comes through San Francisco Animal Care and Control (at least 2500 to date) and since Grateful Dogs Rescue works exclusively with SF ACC – it is safe to say that every Grateful Dog has been groomed at Bernie's Grooming.

Bernie Machado has her dog grooming salon inside of the San Francisco Animal Care and Control shelter and has recently opened a second location in the South Beach / SOMA neighborhood and it's called City Dogs. She has already hosted a Grateful Dogs Rescue adoption event at this new location and invites all new adopters to visit either location for an initial discounted grooming session.

Darling Little Scooter Needs A Foster Home

Dog Lover - Saturday, June 09, 2012

Grateful Dogs Rescue has a darling little guy named Scooter that is looking for a foster home
better suited for him. His current foster home reports that he is loving and
playful but he needs more training and direction than they are able to give
him.

Do you enjoy training? Let us know please. Grateful Dogs Rescue only has one week to find a new foster home for this great little dog.

Scooter weighs about 10 pounds and is 3-5 years old.

If you can foster Scooter, please fill out a foster application at http://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/Foster-application

Meet Jessie at Maddie's Matchmaker Adoptathon This Saturday

Dog Lover - Friday, June 08, 2012

Jessie is a very playful, fun-loving dog. She can hike for hours and loves to retrieve balls and wrestle with her squeaky toys. She is three years old, housebroken and crate trained. Jessie weighs just over seven pounds.

She is currently being fostered in a home with three other small dogs, and a cat. However, she shows NO interest in the other animals, and would probably prefer being the only pet in the household.

She is inquisitive, smart as a whip, and very toy and food motivated. However, Jessie is selective about the humans she likes, and does not tolerate rough or invasive handling from people that she does not know or trust.

With her Grateful Dogs Rescue foster, she is an absolute delight. She is attentive, affectionate, and playful. She stays close by when walking on a trail or in the woods off leash, and is very eager to learn new tricks. She does suffer from separation distress, and will whimper and whine when left in the car, or in an unfamiliar place, but is not destructive (she does not like riding in the car). However, when the Grateful Dogs Rescue volunteer foster leaves for work and leaves her at home she is quiet. Her strong desire to bond with one person would make her an ideal companion for a single person who enjoys having a devoted canine companion.

Jessie is eligible to have her adoption fee waived if adopted on the June 9th and 10th weekend as part of Maddie's Matchmaker Adoptathon

Meet Yolo at Maddie's Matchmaker Adoptathon This Saturday

Dog Lover - Thursday, June 07, 2012

Yolo is a avid cuddler and a sweetheart and has the softest fur. He is probably the friendliest little dog it is possible to meet. He is very curious about the world, and eager to greet all people and dogs.

Yolo would love to meet you this Saturday at Maddie's Matchmaker Adoptathon. He is good on a leash and follows the leader. He loves to be a close companion and has been playful with other dogs and also small children. He does not seem to bark, even when other dogs bark around him (except a couple of barks when the doorbell rings). He is a year old and weighs about eleven pounds with a very slim build. Snuggles, anyone? He has lots of love to give!

Yolo's current foster says he is a smart boy. He has some food protectiveness issues, but is learning to share. He has great potential to be an therapy dog, because he makes everyone feel special and loved. Yolo lives with two cats and is fine with them.

Yolo is eligible to have his adoption fee waived if adopted on the June 9th and 10th weekend as part of Maddie's Matchmaker Adoptathon. Meet Yolo at the Adoptathon this Saturday, June 9th, from 10:00am – 6:00pm

Meet Mimi This Saturday at Maddie's Matchmaker Adoptathon

Dog Lover - Wednesday, June 06, 2012

Mimi is ready for a forever home!

Mimi and her Grateful Dogs Rescue foster mom bonded almost immediately - after a five minute tummy rub and a nice dinner of chicken, Mimi became her BFF! She's a "sticky" girl - she loves following her foster mom and go whereever she goes. Luckily she is a small dog at about seven pounds and three to four years old so she fits in a bag. She loves to eat, sleep and play and she rides well in car and airplane! Every time her foster mom returns home, Mimi just jumps up/down/spins/dances and gives her tons of wet kisses, so happy and passionate! Mimi goes potty outside and occasionally pees on the pee pad if necessary.

Mimi is eligible to have her adoption fee waived if adopted on the June 9th and 10th weekend as part of Maddie's Matchmaker Adoptathon.  Learn more at http://gratefuldogsrescue.org/announcements/maddies-matchmaker-adoptathon-weekend-of-june-9th-and-10th

Mimi arrived at the shelter with Bert and might be his mom, but they are being fostered separately.

This is Bert.

Meet Gus This Saturday – He Wants Someone To Adopt Him

Dog Lover - Tuesday, June 05, 2012

Gus is a delightful and loving dachshund mix, about two to three years old, with a heart of gold! Gus is gentle and shy at first, but quickly warms up. This friendly little guy will be happiest in a home that will give him lots of exercise, TLC and love. He loves cuddling under blankets in bed and as much lap time as possible! Also, a backyard with a doggy door would be a huge plus.

At about thirteen pounds, Gus is house-trained, but he does sometimes pee in the garage. He would be fine with another dog but would need to be in a home with older children. A calm environment is preferred due to his shyness. Gus is high-spirited, attentive, gentle and playful, and very people-centered. Though Gus would not do well if left home alone for long periods he will thrive on lots of exercise, snuggles, occasional cheese and playtime. Give Gus a chance and he will be your best friend forever!

Gus is eligible to have his adoption fee waived if adopted on the June 9th and 10th weekend as part of Maddie's Matchmaker Adoptathon

Harry Needs A Foster Home

Dog Lover - Monday, June 04, 2012

If you've read the past few blog posts, you know that Grateful Dogs Rescue has been looking for foster homes for four Lab/Weimaraner mixes who were rescued from a cruelty case and need training and socialization to get ready to be adopted into a new home.

It looks like Grateful Dogs Rescue has found San Francisco Bay area fosters for Annie and Katie. Now we really need to find a foster home for Harry.

Harry is doing so well. He gave the Grateful Dogs Rescue evaluator a kiss through his kennel bars today and it was the first day she had met him. He really needs a foster home!

Read more about these dogs the GDR blog posts on Saturday, June 2nd and Thursday, May 31st.

If you can foster Harry, please fill out a foster application here

Maddie's Matchmaker Adoption Details Confirmed

Dog Lover - Sunday, June 03, 2012

Here are the latest details for Grateful Dogs Rescue's participation in the 2012 Maddie's Matchmaker Adoptathon.

Come out and meet the volunteers of Grateful Dogs Rescue on Saturday, June 9th, 2012 in San Francisco on Alabama Street between 15th and 16th (between San Francisco Animal Care and Control and the SF SPCA). Click here for a map.

Why is this event special? Not only is it the nation's largest two-day adoption event but during this event, ddoption fees will be waived to qualified adopters and Maddie's Fund will offer stipends to Grateful Dogs Rescue to cover the rescue expenses.

This year's event will be bigger and better than ever. It is expected that a total of 65 groups will be in 80 locations throughout the weekend. The adoption goal has been set at 3,000. (Last year 2,312 dogs and cats were placed in loving new homes.)
