Maddie's Fund: Helping To Create A No-Kill Nation

Dog Lover - Friday, April 27, 2012

Grateful Dogs Rescue will be participating in Maddie's Matchmaker Adoptathon on June 9th/10th, 2012 and today we are highlighting this organization on our blog.

About Maddie's Fund | From their website at www.maddiesfund.org

Maddie’s Fund®  is a family foundation which is funded by the founder of Workday and PeopleSoft, Dave Duffield, and his wife, Cheryl. Maddie’s Fund is helping to create a no-kill nation where all healthy and treatable shelter dogs and cats are guaranteed a loving home.

To achieve this goal, Maddie’s Fund is investing its resources in building community collaborations where animal welfare organizations come together to develop successful models of lifesaving; in veterinary colleges to help shelter medicine become part of the veterinary curriculum to train veterinarians to save the lives of sick and injured dogs and cats in animal shelters; and in the implementation of a national effort to promote accountability and transparency in animal shelter operations. Maddie’s Fund is named after the family’s beloved Miniature Schnauzer who passed away in 1997. Visit their website at www.maddiesfund.org

Dogs Who Stole Their Foster Parents Hearts!

Dog Lover - Thursday, April 26, 2012

Grateful Dogs Rescue has had a lot of dogs adopted by their foster parents this month: Foxy Brown, King, Alfredo, Angus, Lily, Butler, Jax, and Poppy! These dogs were all rescued from euthanziation at the San Francisco Animal Care and Control shelter and GDR volunteers were going to foster them until they were adopted – but these volunteer foster parents fell in love with them and adopted them themselves!

  Angus

Poppy

Lilly (with Basil)

These dogs have wonderful new lives thanks to caring Grateful Dogs Rescue volunteers.

Meet Sherman at The Sports Basement Adoption Event

Dog Lover - Wednesday, April 25, 2012
Sherman is a nine year-old dachshund/rat terrier mix who was adopted from Grateful Dogs Rescue nine years ago and then recently surrendered back to us – fat, with overgrown toenails, a mouth full of bad teeth, and never seen by a vet even once in all those years.

But he's with us now, major dental work done, shaping up on a diet of low-cal kibble instead of junk food and tons of exercise (slimmed down to about fifteen pounds) and we're determined to find him that perfect home he deserves after all the dues he's paid.

This guy is a top-notch cuddler and 100% housetrained! Sherman has really come to love his walks and social time, and cant wait to party with his human and doggie buddies. Don't let this guys age fool you because he will go out for hours and walk as far you take him! He is also crate trained by his choice. He loves his cozy crate cave. Sherman is looking for a forever home that will provide him with daily exercise, lots of love.

If you are interested in adopting Sherman, please fill out an application at http://gratefuldogsrescue.org/Adoption-Application

Rescue Ruby From The Shelter By Giving Her A Foster Home

Dog Lover - Monday, April 23, 2012

Ruby is a lovely sable-colored chihuahuawith a curled tail. She weighs around eight pounds and is one year old. The Grateful Dogs Rescue evaluator said she was calm, friendly and affectionate when she was visiting her in kennel. Ruby was easy to leash up, kind of unsure outside but did okay on her leash. She was not barky and she peed and pooped outside. Ruby stuck by the Grateful Dogs Rescue volunteer and while walking around the park enjoyed sniffing everything she encountered. She was sweetly happy to return to puppy room, where she wagged her tail, and gave kisses. This beauty needs a foster home! Can you look after her until an adopter is found?

Would You Like To Foster Jelly?

Dog Lover - Monday, April 23, 2012

Jelly is a three year old sable chihuahua who is very affectionate. She is a perfect girl who weights just under 16 pounds. She is so perfect that the San Francisco Animal Care and Control shelter is going to retest her tomorrow to see if she can be made available for adoption there. If she doesn't pass, Grateful Dogs Rescue will have to take this lovely lady and we'll be looking for a foster home for her until she can be adopted.

Foster Fun Little Croquet – A Chihuahua

Dog Lover - Sunday, April 22, 2012

Croquet is a high energy little lady. She is a one year old chihuahua who seems fine with big dogs. The Grateful Dogs Rescue evaluator who was walking her, came face to face with a big young pit bull and it didn't faze Croquet at all. She weighs seven/eight pounds and is a young, bouncy, active, tail-wagging cuti. Croquet is is nervous with new people – maybe new men more than new women – but makes friends pretty quick. She needs an active foster!

Super Cooper Is Being Adopted

Dog Lover - Sunday, April 15, 2012

Cooper is a favorite foster at Grateful Dogs Rescue. He is a wonderful charming guy and was known to everyone as Super Cooper. Someone met him at Sunday Streets and is going to adopt him if his landlord approves. Maria, who has fostered Cooper is now facing the hard mixed feelings a volunteer foster faces – she said "Cooper is leaving me tomorrow. Why did I keep thinking this would fall through. The adopter is very excited."

Cooper is going to live with someone who has wanted a dog and recently had a cat who passed away, so is ready for a canine companion. Cooper will live next door to a fenced dog park so will get lots of play time with other dogs there and will probably quickly make many doggy friends.

Denise, a Grateful Dogs Rescue volunteer summed up all of our feelings when she posted "Have a good life handsome boy, I will always remember you."

Charmer Needs A Foster Home.

Dog Lover - Sunday, April 15, 2012

Charmer is a cute, slim, long-legged, tri-color chihuahua who is spunky,
friendly, active, energetic and alert. Charmer pooped and peed soon after getting outside. He enjoyed exploring around the park, going for a walk, encountering other dogs and was affectionate. When the Grateful Dogs Rescue evaluator returned Charmer to his kennel, he was fine with touching and holding. He presents as barky in his kennel, but not so when he gets out. If you can foster Charmer until an adopter is found, please fill out a foster application at http://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/Foster-application
