Leo Is A Dachshund/Chihuahua Mix

Dog Lover - Wednesday, June 27, 2012

Do you have a quiet home and lifestyle that will be perfect for Leo? Grateful Dogs Rescue is looking for a San Francsico Bay area home for Leo. Are you looking to adopt a dog? Maybe Leo is the dog for you.

This is our sweet little Leo. He is about a year old and close to ten pounds. Leo loves to be with the ones he loves and trusts. He can get shy in new situations but at home he is a cuddle bug. He's not a huge player but loves to get a treat and go out for his walks to explore town and romp at the park.

Due to Leo's shy nature, he is looking for a quieter home with adults that will understand how to go slow in the beginning. After he bonds with you though, he is your forever friend and loves his belly rubs and cuddles. He does seem to favor women over men.

If you are interesting in adopting Leo, fill out the Grateful Dogs Rescue adoption application to start the process of meeting Leo and to see if he is right for you. http://gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-application

Meet Gus This Saturday – He Wants Someone To Adopt Him

Dog Lover - Tuesday, June 05, 2012

Gus is a delightful and loving dachshund mix, about two to three years old, with a heart of gold! Gus is gentle and shy at first, but quickly warms up. This friendly little guy will be happiest in a home that will give him lots of exercise, TLC and love. He loves cuddling under blankets in bed and as much lap time as possible! Also, a backyard with a doggy door would be a huge plus.

At about thirteen pounds, Gus is house-trained, but he does sometimes pee in the garage. He would be fine with another dog but would need to be in a home with older children. A calm environment is preferred due to his shyness. Gus is high-spirited, attentive, gentle and playful, and very people-centered. Though Gus would not do well if left home alone for long periods he will thrive on lots of exercise, snuggles, occasional cheese and playtime. Give Gus a chance and he will be your best friend forever!

Gus is eligible to have his adoption fee waived if adopted on the June 9th and 10th weekend as part of Maddie's Matchmaker Adoptathon

Sherman Has A New Home!

Dog Lover - Wednesday, May 23, 2012

Sherman found a wonderful new home at the Sports Basement adoption event. It was so hard for the wonderful Grateful Dogs Rescue volunteer who fostered him back to good health after he was returned to Grateful Dogs Rescue - she will miss him terribly. This is one charming dog. Here he is on his way to his new forever home.

Sherman is a nine year-old dachshund/rat terrier mix who was adopted from Grateful Dogs Rescue nine years ago and then recently surrendered back to us – fat, with overgrown toenails, a mouth full of bad teeth, and never seen by a vet even once in all those years. But he's now had major dental work done, shaping up on a diet of low-cal kibble instead of junk food and tons of exercise (slimmed down to about fifteen pounds) and now has theperfect home he deserves after all the dues he's paid.

Here's what some of the GDR volunteers had to say about Sherman.

"Good luck, little funny face! I'll miss you SO much! Congratulations on your newest adventure and the best of luck to you and your new forever family! We'll always love you buddy! ♥"

"So happy for the Sherminator!! I'll miss seeing that face."

Fluffy Needs Someone To Foster Her So She Can Get Out Of The Shelter

Dog Lover - Friday, May 11, 2012

Grateful Dogs Rescue is looking for a San Francisco bay area foster home for Fluffy.

Fluffy is about two years old and weighs thirteen pounds. Very cute feathery-fur, black and tan. She came to San Francisco Animal Care and Control (SF ACC) pregnant and was shy and growly. She was spayed on Friday and her demeanor had changed to sweet, friendly, submissive, lovely. The Grateful Dogs Rescue evaluator was smitten. The shelter thinks she is a long-haired chihuahua dachshund mix at about two years old.

The Grateful Dogs Rescue evaluator revisited Fluffy who was happy to see her, wagging her tail and affectionate when she sat with her in kennel. Fluffy asks for lots of petting and belly rubs. She is a very pretty girl – perhaps spaniel/dacshund. Fluffy is gentle and calm with familiar people but shy with strangers. She is happy/interested/calm meeting other dogs and is generally quiet. Fluffy peed and pooped outside was okay on leash but somewhat wary on her walk. She enjoyed herself in park, and the Grateful Dogs Rescue volunteer thought she is lovely girl. Fluffy is about two years old and weighs thirteen pounds.

Gus is a delightful dachshund mix who is about two or three years old. Gus has a heart of gold (behaves and looks older though), he's gentle, shy at first, but quickly warms up and gains confidence with people around him. This friendly dog will thrive in a home that will give him lots of exercise, lots of care, attention and love. A calm environment is preferred for Gus, he loves cuddling under blankets in bed, and a backyard with a doggy door is a huge plus (loud or sudden noises frighten him, and he will bark if he is afraid or feels unsafe, (rain/thunder/lightening, street noises, mail carriers). At about thirteen punds, Gus is mostly house-trained. He would be fine with other dogs, but would need to be in a home with older children, due to his shyness. Gus is high-spirited, attentive, gentle and playful, dependent on others, and very people-centered. Gus would not do well if left home alone for long periods, but would love lots of exercise, occasional cheese and playtime. All Gus needs is another chance, and he will be your best friend forever.

This guy is a top-notch cuddler and 100% housetrained! Sherman has really come to love his walks and social time, and cant wait to party with his human and doggie buddies. Don't let this guys age fool you because he will go out for hours and walk as far you take him! He is also crate trained by his choice. He loves his cozy crate cave. Sherman is looking for a forever home that will provide him with daily exercise, lots of love.
