Here are the latest details for Grateful Dogs Rescue's participation in the 2012 Maddie's Matchmaker Adoptathon.

Come out and meet the volunteers of Grateful Dogs Rescue on Saturday, June 9th, 2012 in San Francisco on Alabama Street between 15th and 16th (between San Francisco Animal Care and Control and the SF SPCA). Click here for a map.

Why is this event special? Not only is it the nation's largest two-day adoption event but during this event, ddoption fees will be waived to qualified adopters and Maddie's Fund will offer stipends to Grateful Dogs Rescue to cover the rescue expenses.

This year's event will be bigger and better than ever. It is expected that a total of 65 groups will be in 80 locations throughout the weekend. The adoption goal has been set at 3,000. (Last year 2,312 dogs and cats were placed in loving new homes.)

Meet Gus At Sports Basement Potrero This Saturday

Dog Lover - Tuesday, May 08, 2012

Grateful Dogs Rescue is holding an adoption event at Sports Basement Potrero this Saturday, May 12th from 11:00 – 2:00 (for complete details click here). Gus is a dog who was rescued from the San Francisco Animal Care and Control shelter and has been in foster care with a Grateful Dogs Rescue volunteer. He is now ready to be adopted and if you are interested in meeting him, please come out to the adoption event. For Gus' profile, scroll down below his photo,

Gus is a delightful dachshund mix who is about two or three years old. Gus has a heart of gold (behaves and looks older though), he's gentle, shy at first, but quickly warms up and gains confidence with people around him. This friendly dog will thrive in a home that will give him lots of exercise, lots of care, attention and love. A calm environment is preferred for Gus, he loves cuddling under blankets in bed, and a backyard with a doggy door is a huge plus (loud or sudden noises frighten him, and he will bark if he is afraid or feels unsafe, (rain/thunder/lightening, street noises, mail carriers). At about thirteen punds, Gus is mostly house-trained. He would be fine with other dogs, but would need to be in a home with older children, due to his shyness. Gus is high-spirited, attentive, gentle and playful, dependent on others, and very people-centered. Gus would not do well if left home alone for long periods, but would love lots of exercise, occasional cheese and playtime. All Gus needs is another chance, and he will be your best friend forever.

If you are interested in adopting Gus, please fill out an adoption application here http://gratefuldogsrescue.org/Adoption-Application

Maddie's Fund: Helping To Create A No-Kill Nation

Dog Lover - Friday, April 27, 2012

Grateful Dogs Rescue will be participating in Maddie's Matchmaker Adoptathon on June 9th/10th, 2012 and today we are highlighting this organization on our blog.

About Maddie's Fund | From their website at www.maddiesfund.org

Maddie’s Fund®  is a family foundation which is funded by the founder of Workday and PeopleSoft, Dave Duffield, and his wife, Cheryl. Maddie’s Fund is helping to create a no-kill nation where all healthy and treatable shelter dogs and cats are guaranteed a loving home.

To achieve this goal, Maddie’s Fund is investing its resources in building community collaborations where animal welfare organizations come together to develop successful models of lifesaving; in veterinary colleges to help shelter medicine become part of the veterinary curriculum to train veterinarians to save the lives of sick and injured dogs and cats in animal shelters; and in the implementation of a national effort to promote accountability and transparency in animal shelter operations. Maddie’s Fund is named after the family’s beloved Miniature Schnauzer who passed away in 1997. Visit their website at www.maddiesfund.org
