Grateful Dogs Rescue is Looking for Someone To Adopt Jetta – A Small Female Rat Terrier / Chihuahua Mix Dog

Dog Lover - Monday, May 14, 2012

Jetta was rescued from the San Francisco Animal Care and Control shelter where she was at risk of euthanization through no fault of her own. She is currently being fostered by a Grateful Dogs Rescue volunteer, who wrote the following paragraphs about Jetta. If you would be interested in adopting this great little dog, please fill out an adoption application at http://gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-application

Jetta is such a gentle and wise soul. She is about two years old – a momma dog – who raised four wonderful pups with devotion. Jetta is fun, silly, easy going, a couch potato, a hiker, a beach dog, she loves to do fun obedience things, playful with dogs, toys and people she knows, cuddly, she likes to be wherever you are. She is a quiet dog, gentle and honest. Jetta is usually timid when she meets someone for the first time, but warms up quickly.

Jetta is well trained, walks well on leash in a harness or collar, does not drag, her recall is fantastic, she even comes when called away from play. She can sit, come, heel, stay, watch me, align right next to your left leg, she can drop and leave it, she knows lets go, load up (car), unten (means to sit in the passenger leg room or behind the front seat in the car), she is good with car rides, she can settle on her bed (go to you bed). She benefits from settling on her bed, when she feels insecure about things. It gives her time to settle internally and then go from there. She has a positive association toward her bed.

Nail clipping and bathing is a breeze. She is friendly, yet shy at the vet. Jetta can stay at home for about 4 - 6 hours. She can easily live with other animals, enjoys being around other nice dogs, cats, horses she does not mind, nor cows. Jetta does not mind being around children, she lets them pet her, but I would not recommend for her to move into a busy household with children. Altogether she is really awesome dog, who will be the best companion.

Jetta feels best, most relaxed and full of joy when she is outdoors. She learns best outdoors using positive reinforcement, treats or cuddles. Her weaknesses can become her strengths. She used to be submissive and roll on her back, but now the rolling is comfort and trust for her. She offers a lot, which you can turn into skills.

Jetta seems more insecure indoors, but at the same time she is fine with all the sounds and day to day activities in the household. She does not mind loud talking, music, thunderstorms. Well, ok, she is not a friend of the vacuum cleaner. If you give it a bit more practice, she will be ok. At our house she went from hiding to following us around in a distance during the vacuuming. But that's not unusual for dogs. She likes wearing her jackets, sticks her head right in, because they keep her warm :o)

If you are a kind person, couple, active, like the outdoors, patient and fun loving you will enjoy this beautiful girl. Happy woofs from Jetta- she is pretty much PERFECT!
